Well, here we are in May, finally the snow and ice are gone. At least around Escanaba and Gladstone. I heard they got 4 to 5 inches of snow near Marquette the other day.
We had our April 26th meeting last Saturday of the yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club. There was a pretty good turnout for the meeting and we got a new member signed up. Rand Gillespie’s wife Donna joined. She always attended the meetings ever since Rand joined back in July of 2012. Welcome to the club Donna.
We had to inform the members that a club outing we’d been planning fell through. The area of the 2 ghost towns we were going to take the club ended up on private property. A week or so ago Lynn Richards, Bill Castle and myself (Bill Bruner) did a scouting expedition of the area and discovered the area was owned by a company and wouldn’t allow anyone on the sites. Oh well, we’re working on a potato field the was used back in the fifties and people (myself included) went behind the machines and hand picked the ones the machines missed. The same thing was done in yellow and green bean fields back then.
Pete Harvala won the 50/50………I hope he didn’t spend it all at the Chip In casino!!
Rand and Donna brought some rolls for desert. My wife, Sharon bought some cookies and Bill Castle’s wife Karen made some yummy Cherry bars and cool whip to top them off. I lost count how many I ate!
We have a club banner that we can display when we’re having club meetings. Lynn Richards made brackets so we can display it on a stand indoors. He also made it so we can so it can be displayed outdoors. Thanks a bunch Lynn. He’s our club Mr. Fixit. (see photo above to view banner, etc., click on photo to enlarge.)
I personally purchased two magnetic signs similar to our club banner and have them on my vehicle to kinda advertise for our Yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club.
We also ordered 2 dozen summer club caps. New members will have the option to receive a summer or winter club cap. The summer caps can also be purchased by a member for ten dollars and the money goes toward club expenses and our annual picnic in September. We did discuss about new members getting their club cap after they’d attended their first meeting.
My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on the 25th of April. Her Birthday was on the 23rd and my birthday is on May 3rd, so we’ve been pretty busy the last week or so. I’ll be 72 and I won’t say her age …….oh what the heck, she was 68. She won’t see this newsletter anyways…..I hope.
For our anniversary, we had a get together in the dining room with our family members and many good friends that reside in Bayview Manor where we live.
I think I’ll wrap this one up. It’s 3:30 am and I have to get up early, so…….Don’t forget to cover your holes, PLEASE…..til the next newsletter, Good night!
