Yooper Coinshooters January 2016 newsletter

We held our regular monthly meeting of the yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club on January 30th at 12:30 eastern time at my residence, Bay View Manor in Gladstone,Michigan.

The meeting was called to order at 12:44 and the pledge of allegiance was recited followed with a reading of the minutes of the December meeting minutes by our secretary, Donna Gillespie.

Next on the agenda was our treasurers report by Bill Castle. We’re in good shape financially and have a new member, Joe Martin an ex marine that resides in Sault Ste Marie. I sent a club cap to Joe on Tuesday the 2nd of February.

Bill Castle did announce that he’d like to take a break from the treasurers job and asked for someone to step up for the position. I’ll be polling all members by telephone asking for a volunteer for the job. Bill has been doing a great job as treasurer for the past 6 years and it’ll be hard to find an equal.

Bill told us he had a list of all scout camps in the U.P. and he’d pass it on to anyone requesting it.

I informed the members that I had a Minelab Etrac for sale for $1000.00. The price includes the detector, carrying case, headphones and re-chargeable battery pack.

I showed the membership my survival pack items I have in a small back pack. This is sometimes called a bug out bag.

I plan on taking it when ever I go into the woods detecting. You can never tell when you might get disoriented and become lost. The items would be enough to help me survive 36 hours in the wilderness. The back pack and contents weighs about 7 pounds.

Lynn Richards gave the members a demonstration of putting a clear protective shield on the faces of our detectors to protect against scratches and rain. He also showed how to put on a sun screen to prevent glare from the sun. I’d seen this procedure on a youtube video and sent it to Lynn and he purchased the protective material and also a heat gun to do the installation. Thanks a bunch, Lynn.

Iron River members Mike and Sharon Hurkmans brought some returnable cans and bottles to the meeting and donated them to the club treasury. I cashed them in at Walmart and the total is $15.40. Thanks again to the Hurkmans. They’ve donated their returnables several times in the past.

Tom Robison made the suggestion that if anyone had any questions about ther detectors to bring them to the meetings and members would help them with any problems they might have.

We then hed the silver coin drawings. I, Bill Bruner won the first one which was a Franklin half dollar. The next winner was Mike Hurkman and Bill Castle for Mercury dimes and Ray Philips and Lynn Richards for silver Rosie’s.

Lynn Richards conducted the 50/50 drawing which was won by Tom Robison. Congratulations to the winners of all drawings

I want to thank Sharon Bruner for the pina colada salad and the orange cake and Sharon and Mike Hurkmans for the donuts they brought to the meeting for snacks. I brought soda, water and also made the coffee.

Sharon Hurkmans made a motion to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by her husband, Mike and the meeting was over at 2:18 pm.

The next yoopercoinshooters meeting will be on February 27th at 12:30 pm est. at my residence, Bay View Manor in Gladstone,MI

That’s it for this one, Don’t forget to cover your holes…….please.
