July 2017 Yooper Coinshooters Club Newsletter

We held our July meeting of the Yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club which was called to order at 12:34 pm EST. at Bay View Manor on Saturday the 29th.

After the Pledge Of Allegiance, Donna Gillespie gave the secretarys report and the minutes from the previous months meeting. A motion was made by Bonnie Philips and seconded by Mike Hurkmans to accept her report as read.

Donna’s husband Rand followed with the treasurers report which showed the club financially sound with an excess for club expenses. A motion was made by Bill Castle and seconded by Ray Roberts to accept Rand’s report as read. Both reports were accepted by the members with a show of hands.

Dan Trenary brought in a small iron he found recently.

On July 21st club members met at the intersection of US 2 and 41 and M-69 for our “Adopt A Highway” cleanup. We do a two mile section of the M-69 highway starting at the intersection and working towards the Schaffer/Perronville areas. We had a good turnout and this was the second of three times we do this each year. The next highway cleanup will be on September 29th at 9am EST. I’ve posted pictures in the “Members section” of our club site.

We had a shortened agenda of this months meeting as there wasn’t much club business to tackle. Next month we’ll be finalizing the plans for our Christmas “White Elephant” party.

I mentioned to all members that have protective covers on their detectors that it’d be a good time to remove them and flush all the dirt that accumulates in the covers. I’m always amazed this happens because the covers fit rather tightly.

The silver coin drawings went as follows: I, Bill Bruner won a Washington silver quarter. The next 4 silver Rosie dimes were won by Donna Gillespie, Brian Tepsa, Pete Harvala and Ray Roberts. The 50/50 winner was Ray Roberts.

I mentioned to the members that while I was water detecting a few days prior to the meeting, I’d found a painted rock in two feet of water. I Googled the find and here’s a little info on my rock. The idea is simple: Paint inspirational messages on rocks and randomly leave them across a community for others to find. Then re-hide it for others to discover. Kinda neat!

I told my usual 2 jokes. I then thanked the following members for the snacks they brought for our after the meeting get together: Dan Trenary, Mike and Sharon Hurkmans, Donna Gillespie, Bill Castle and Sharon Bruner.

A motion was made by Ray Roberts and seconded by Bill Castle to adjourn the meeting at 1:04 pm, EST.

Thats it for this months newsletter. I thanked all for attending and announced that the next meeting will be 12:30 EST time on Saturday, August 26th.

Happy hunting to all yoopercoinshooters and don’t forget to cover your holes…..PLEASE.
