March 2018 Yooper Coinshooters Newsletter

The March 31st, 2018 meeting of the yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club was called to order at 12:17 pm.

We started the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The turnout was down this month as we received 10 to 14 inches of snow the night before the meeting and also the day before Easter. The Hurkmans made it, (I knew they would), they’re from Iron River, around a 100 miles! That shows real dedication!!!

Our secretary, Donna Gillespie, started the meeting with the minutes from the February meeting. Donna also went over the Adopt A Highway program the club does and we’ll be doing the cleanup sometime between April 28th and May 4th. This will be the first highway cleanup for 2018 with 2 more outings to follow. Once more in the summer and the last in the fall. Bonnie made a motion to accept Donna’s report as read which was seconded by Michael Hurkmans.

Rand followed Donna with the treasurers report. As usual we are financially sound. Michael Hurkmans made a motion to accept Rand’s report and there was a second by Ray Philips.

Michael and Sharon Hurkmans brought in their bottles and cans to donate to the club. They’ve donated their returnables several times in the past and contributed a tidy sum to our club. THANK YOU HURKMANS! Rand redeemed the bottles and cans and the total was $13.40.

I gave Rand an invoice for $28.61 for 500 new club cards. We had 10 or 12 left but they had my old land-line phone number on them so I ordered the new ones. The money also included plastic forks and napkins for club meals.

I asked Rand how the club hat supply is and he assured the members there’s no need to order any at this time. When we do need a new supply, Donna orders the blank caps and does the embroidery work for the clubs logo. This saves the club quite a bit of cash.

I gave each member several club cards to give to anyone that seems interested in metal detecting.

I also reminded the members that I have a couple lists I made up on our site that have a pretty thorough listing of things to take on a overnight detecting trip and another one for an extended trip. I hate going out of town and find out I forgot something I really need and can’t find a store in the boonies.

We’re also making plans for the club picnic in June. The silver coin drawing winners are as follows: Mike Hurkmans received a silver Washington quarter, Bonnie Philips and Sharon Hurkmans each got a Mercury dime, and Brian Tepsa and Ray Philips each got a silver Rosie dime.

The fifty fifty drawing winner was Ray Philips.

The winner of the twenty dollar Holiday station gift card was Donna Gillespie.

I told my usual 2 jokes which got a few chuckles.

As for snacks brought by members, I want to thank the following: Sharon Bruner, Donna Gillespie, the Hurkmans, and Brian Tepsa.

Donna Gillespie made a motion to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by Bonnie Philips and the meeting was adjourned at 1:27.

The next regular meeting of the yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club will be at 217 Dakota avenue, Bayview Manor in Gladstone at 12:30 EST on Saturday, April, 28th

That’s it for this one, happy hunting (soon?), and don’t forget to cover your holes………….PLEASE.
