The October 19th, 2019 meeting of the yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club was called to order at 12:37 pm EST.
The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dan trenary gave the secretary report: A motion to accept Dans report was made by Mike Hurkmans and seconded by Ray Roberts and accepted by the members with a show of hands.
Rand Gillespie gave the treasurers report. Rand advised the members that all club dues are now up to date and financially the club is in good shape. A motion to accept Rands report was made by Ray Roberts and and seconded by Tom Robison accepted by the members with a show of hands.
I asked the membership if anyone had any suggestions on improvements for next years picnic or coin/token hunt. There were no comments so I guess everyone was satisfied with this years events.
I mentioned to Bonnie Philips that I have a couple youtube videos book marked on “Simon Says Contests” and I’ll send them to her. Bonnie is the emcee for the contest each year and the videos will give her some new ideas to try next year.
I asked the members if November 30th is going to be ok for the next club meeting and we decided to cancel the meeting. It’s two days after Thanksgiving and some members will be traveling to family at out of town destinations.
The membership agreed to pass on the $70.00 hunt package from Garrett Detecting Company. In the past they’d always sent a Garret detector with various other items. This year they didn’t send one. I called Adam and he told me there there was no guarantee of that anymore. I also mentioned that in the future we’ll have to figure out something different to get prizes for the hunt and picnic.
I get lots of email with people starting out in detecting and want to know where to detect and which detector is best. The following is my standard reply to their emails:
I don’t recommend any particular detector. I suggest before buying any detector to try googling youtube and enter in metal detecting and you’ll see many different detectorist using different brands of metal detectors along with the different places to go detecting. Most detectorist ask permission from friends and family members to detect their property. A lot of metal detectorist canvas a neighborhood and knock on doors and ask for permissions. Another thing I suggest is when you watch youtube and see different detecting techniques pay special attention to the way they cut a plug, extract the coin and close the hole. If you leave a mess when your done you’ll risk future metal detectorist getting booted out of parks, playgrounds and homeowners yards they might have gotten permission to detect. WATCH A LOT OF youtube videos AND PERFECT THE WAY TO CUT THE PLUG AND MAKE THE AREA LOOK LIKE IT WAS BEFORE YOU GOT THERE. Good luck and good hunting.
I’d appreciate it if you’d drop me an email and let me know where your at. Bill Bruner Gladstone, Michigan 49837. 906.241.9150 – or http://yoopercoinshooters.com.
After a suggestion on our yearly “White Elephant” event in December we discussed and voted to drop it and with a vote to just have a Christmas meeting with a drawing of names and have gift exchanges with a cap on gift spending of $10.00.
Next on the agenda were the five silver coin drawings. First is a silver Washington quarter won by Dan Trenary. The four Mercury dime winners were: Ray Roberts, Tom Robison, Bill Castle, and Sharon Bruner.
Next was the 50/50 drawing and the winner was: Mike Hurkmans.
Next was the $20 gas card drawing and the winner was: Sharon Bruner.
The next regular meeting of The Yooper CoinShooters metal detecting club will be on Saturday, December 7th at 217 Dakota avenue (Bay View Manor) Gladstone, Mi at 12:30 pm. If you know anyone interested in metal detecting, bring them along to the meeting.
A motion to Adjourn the meeting was made by Sharon Hurkmans and seconded by Mike Hurkmans. With a show hands, Meeting Adjourned at 1:45pm.
Next – TIME TO EAT !!!
That’s it for this one. If your going detecting, good luck and don’t forget to cover your holes…PLEASE.
