The February 29th, 2020 meeting of the yoopercoinshooters metal detecting club was called to order at 12:38 pm EST.
The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dan Trenary’s secretary report: Dan was snowed in at his residence and was unable to make it to the meeting. I, Bill Bruner, did Dan’s report.
Rand Gillespie’s was next. Rand gave Tom Walling his club cap. After Rands treasurers report a motion to accept it was made by Bonnie Philips and seconded by Sharon Hurkmans, motion accepted with a show of hands.
Donna Gillespie informed the members that our first “Adopt A Highway” pickup will be sometime between May 9th and May 17th. Our second pickup will be between July 18th and July 26th. Our last pickup for the year will be between September and October 4th.
We updated all the members home and cell phone numbers.
I told the members that I was selling my Minelab Etrac with my Sun Ray X-1 probe (pin pointer) attached plus a set of Whites Pro Star headphones.
I also spent quite a bit of time asking each member when and how they came to get interested in metal detecting and what detectors they use. I also asked members what were their best and weirdest items they’d found. I told the members of the different coin spills I’ve dug over the years. I also told the members about the “trappers tags” I bury every once in awhile. They’re about 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inches and say “You’re too late. Diehard got the coin.” and can be ordered at most trapping supply sites. I suppose when a detectorist finds one they get a chuckle and some may get ticked off, but it’s all in fun. They ring up like a copper penny.
My license plate is something like that too. I’ll post a picture in this newsletter so you all can see them. I dubbed myself “Diehard” because one winter here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I detected a couple days each month in January, February, and March, with about 7 inches of snow on the ground and below freezing temperatures. When I’d detect a coin I’d clear the snow away and get the coin out of the ground with a hammer and a chisel!
Next on the agenda were the five silver coin drawings. First was a silver Washington quarter won by Tom Walling and the four Mercury dimes winners were: Bill Bruner, Rand Gillespie, Ray Philips, Mike Hurkmans.
Next was the 50/50 drawing and the winner was: Brian Tepsa.
Next was the $20 gas card drawing and the winner was:Tom Walling.
Congratulations to all drawing winners!
Thanks to all for the food they brought in for our after the meeting snack, it was as always delicious!

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mike Hurkmans which was seconded by Tom Robison, and with a show hands, Meeting Adjourned at 2:08 pm.
