Three new members is good news. Hope the club continues to grow! Happy Treasure Hunting!

  2. Anonymous July 7, 2010

Hopefully they do allow hunting again in the parks. Maybe there is a class or something people could take to learn the proper retrieval procedure as to make hunting in the park welcomed instead of condemed. Good work on promoting the hobby gang.

    good luck on the club

  4. Jason Bernard April 13, 2011

So I see Nicole got her wish. She is the rudest person I have ever met.

Thanks for sharing news of your trips – very interesting to new Yooper prospectors!

Sorry to hear your club initiative didn’t work out. We have an online Tesla turbine builders club with over 1,800 members & often find it hard to jump start the kind of experimentation & focus we’re looking for.

My husband & I live near Munising, MI & have shifted into SERIOUS hobby mode – we now have 3 metal detectors & are looking for places in the Keweenaw to try them out. We’re interested in copper, silver & metals rather than coin shooting at parks/beaches. Any ideas?

  6. Ryan Bernard February 27, 2012

Hey is the club back up and running?

  7. Andrei March 27, 2012

For 45 years I have enjoyed this hobby! Another park ntuhing tip is to never cut plugs, especially during dry weather, as it will turn the plug yellow if the plug is too shallow. Use a nylon tipped probe to locate the item, then slip a flat screw driver under the item (careful not to scratch) and pop it up. Or you can cut a slit by moving your probe side to side after locating, then after you retreiving it just press the slit together, VIOLA , no sign that you were even there! Happy Hunting:)

This is a good buy for the price, the GOLD DIGGER does what it claims to do.I took it to a local beach in my area i found htnnaiyg from a penny to aluminum foil, some of the objects was small and about six inches or so deep. You do find a lot of trash but i found it to be very sensitive to objects of all metals when trash eleminator was off,but this way you miss nothing. Also it can detect larger objects at greater depths,it was fun to use and i recommend it to anyone.

  9. BillB March 29, 2012

Ryan, I may give it another try this summer

  10. Jason Bernard April 11, 2012

Picked up a 34-d Merc and a too green to tell the date wheatie at Pioneer today…she’s still giving it up.

  11. BillB April 11, 2012

Good going on the Merc dime Jason. I was there Tuesday (10th) and got 2 Lincolns in the teens and a 1905 V nickel.I stayed way back by the tracks and only in the woods.

  12. Jason Bernard April 11, 2012

I’ve tried back in the woods a few times. Never found any coins. Mostly .22 bullets or shell casings. Good find on the V nickel…that’s something neither me or my brother has found yet.

I am looking forward to attending the monthly meeting on Saturday.

  15. BillB April 25, 2012

We’ll be looking forward to seeing you there Debbie. Bring your detector and some of your recent finds.

  16. debbie April 30, 2012

Enjoyed my first meeting, will definitely be back. Yesterday I got called into work to fix a computer problem at 11 a.m. Had some time in between getting it fixed and my waitress shift which began at 3 so I went to Pioneer Trail Park for 45 minutes and found a few zinc pennies, a dime and a few goodies.
A 1923 mercury dime and a 1910 V nickle at the base of a tree.

  17. debbie April 30, 2012

Not bad for the first hunt of the year. (well second if you count the day of our meeting).

  18. BillB April 30, 2012

Glad to hear you enjoyed the meeting and congrats on the nice finds at the park. I think there’s a lot of coins left in that hunted out park hey!!

  19. debbie May 1, 2012

I went back yesterday and hunted over an hour with only a pocket full of pull tabs, rusted bottle caps and pennies to show for it. But I was determined that I wasn’t leaving without a silver or an oldie. Then the last 20 minutes of my hunt I found a buffalo nickle (no date) by the base of a tree in the woods on the north side. Walking back toward my vehicle, I got a mixed signal between 19-24 and 70-82. I couldn’t pinpoint it. I ended up digging 7 pull tabs and a rusted bottle cap out of an 8 inch section before I got a 1953 rosie. Another good hunt! I was happy. :)

  20. BillB May 1, 2012

Good finds Deb and your also cleaning the junk out of the park……persistence pays off, hey?

  21. debbie May 3, 2012

Thanks Bill. Good luck to you all in the Copper Country! Wish I could go but getting weekends off is nearly impossible.

  22. Hans May 11, 2012

Greetings from the Copper Country! I’m really enjoying this website, as it is full of useful tips and strategy. I live in Hancock and am fairly new to metal detecting. I just bought my first detector from Keweenaw Gem and Gift in Houghton. I’m starting small with a White’s Coinmaster. So far I am gathering that parks are the place to be- especially when in search of coin. Are there any members who are from up this far? Maybe someone who wouldn’t mind a partner on an outing? I could use a little help in getting started. Thanks! :)

  23. Bill B. May 17, 2012

Hi Hans, We don’t have a member in Hancock but I know of one in the Lake Linden area. I’ll email him and give him your email address and he may contact you. We just got back from a float copper hunt in the Kenton area. You might try looking for float copper in your area, especially if you have access to private land.

  24. debbie May 29, 2012

Sorry I missed the May Meeting. I had to work at 4 p.m. How was the turnout? What did I miss?

  25. BillB May 29, 2012

We cancelled the May meeting due to the holiday and high school graduations. Next one is June 16th. It’s posted on the site. I’ll email everyone a few days prior to the meeting.

  26. Hans May 30, 2012

Thanks for the reply Bill! That sounds great. So far i’ve detected a drained pond in the Copper Harbor area. Found some 60’s clad and a couple fishing spoons, not much else. The exciting part is that i’m the only one to have dug there so far. I’ve only been out a few times though. Still learning my detector. Take care!

  27. Scott July 12, 2012

My wife and i are about to buy our first detectors and go hunting down here in Menominee

  28. BillB July 12, 2012

Welcome to the world of metal detecting. After your all set up and running, feel free to join our club based here in Delta county.

  29. Scott July 17, 2012

Thank you. We did a little bit of hunting at Henes Park and only came up with some scrap metal and a buried coke can. My wife has a short attention span if she isn’t finding anything. I’ll admit, it is frustrating when you cannot find anything.

  30. BillB July 18, 2012

Don’t give up. I’ve been to that same park and didn’t find much either. Try your own yard or some friends places you can get permission to hunt at. Just practice taking a plug first. Your welcome to come to our next meeting on July 28th at 3 pm at Pioneer Trail park between Escanaba and Gladstone and we’ll gladly give some assistance and answer any questions you may have.

  31. Scott July 18, 2012

That is very kind of you, thank you. Unfortunately, we will be in Mackinaw City for wife’s birthday that weekend. I know there is a few beaches along U.S. 2 on the way. We might stop at one of those. We went for a few hours today and I picked up a cheap looking earring. We couldn’t dig, otherwise we would have had a lot more stuff. Maybe we can swing up there for the meeting. I am really interested in meeting everyone.

  32. BillB July 19, 2012

Happy birthday to your wife and good luck detecting on the way to Mackinaw City.Hope to see you all at the meeting.

  33. Scott July 20, 2012

I will tell her you said that.

  34. Jim September 1, 2012

Looks like the annual club picnic went really well. Good to see you guys are growing the club.

  35. BillB September 1, 2012

Thanks Jim. Yeah, it looks like it’s going to keep growing….finally!

  36. Andy Vincent October 31, 2012

    Hi Bill,

Will you please post photos of the new club hats?

    Thanks,
    Andy :)

  37. BillB November 1, 2012

Yes I will Andy. In the meantime, I’ll send a pic to your email.

  38. Jason Bernard October 3, 2013

Sure was a good time. It’s great to see how the club has grown and I enjoy the time spent with everyone doing the thing I enjoy most. Great job with the club Bill, You sure have worked hard to make it great.

  39. BillB October 7, 2013

Thanks a bunch Jason, Sometimes it is a lot of work but, it’s worth the effort and it’s something I enjoy doing.

  40. Jim December 6, 2013

Yep. Winter is here for sure. Now it’s a waiting game until warmer weather rolls back around. It couldn’t happen too soon.

  41. BillB December 6, 2013

Well Jim, some people look forward to winter and some don’t. If you like snow and cold or go south for a few months, It’s ok. If you just do metal detecting then each winter month seem a lot longer than 30 days.
